Books make wonderful Christmas gifts. Here are my recommendations on some books to consider, and the books not to consider. There are others books on the subject of the 'Mixed Bloods of Southern Appalachia', but I'm listing the best and the very worst, in my opinion. For the record, I have both read and owned all the books listed.
These are the books I recommend, all are informative and educational...
'Melungeons: Examining An Appalachian Legend' by Pat Spurlock
'Melungeons Footprints from the Past' by Jack Goins
'Becoming Melungeon' by Melissa Schrift
'The Invisible Line: A Secret History of Race in America' by Daniel J. Sharfstein
'Children of Perdition' by Tim Hashaw
These are the books I don't recommend, in fact I would classify them a 'rubbish' ...
'The Melungeons: The Resurrection of a Proud People' by N. Brent Kennedy
'Melungeons: The Last Lost Tribe in America' (1st Edition) by Elizabeth Hirschman
'Melungeons: The Last Lost Tribe in America' by Elizabeth Hirschman
'Kinfolks: Falling off the Family Tree: The Search for My Melungeon Ancestors' by Lisa Alther
'The Portuguese Making of America : Melungeons and Early Settlers of America' by Manuel Mira
